On February 14, 2025, the Davao Occidental Provincial Athletics Association (DavOccPAA) Meet 2025 officially commenced at Datu Ayuram Sports Complex, Municipality of Don Marcelino highlighting the abilities and talents of our student athletes in various sports. Thousands of them, including the coaches, technical officials, municipal leaders from the Municipalities of Malita, Sta. Maria, Don Marcelino, Jose Abad Santos and Sarangani and our province’s government officials cheerfully participated in a grand parade to formally open the athletic spectacle.

Spanning from February 14- 17, this four-day event aims to select the best in several sporting events who will further qualify to the Davao Regional Athletics Association (DAVRAA) Meet 2025.

Alongside with Governor Atty. Franklin P. Bautista and Vice-Governor Lorna Bautista-Bandigan, Municipality Officials from the 5 municipalities and the Department of Education, Division of Davao Occidental were filled with high hopes of excellence and success for this year’s DavOccPAA Meet.

Davao Occidental Provincial Government participates in the Automated Counting Machine (ACM) Roadshow 2025 conducted by Commission on Elections (COMELEC)- Davao Occidental held at the Capitol Building earlier today.

Facilitators of the sessions are Atty. Mohammad Fyzee P. Alim, Provincial Election Supervisor, Ms. Ayala Noronihar D. Polao, Election Officer – Malita, Mr. Dexter John S. Leones, Election Officer – Jose Abad Santos, also present in the road show are 73rd IB – LTCOL Jaicris Jan P. Mendoza, Board Member Rogelio Baribar and some PLGU personnels.

The said activity aims to boost voter confidence through observation and ensure transparency in the elections. It helps voters understand how automated counting machines work and their role in ensuring accurate and credible results.

We join the many Filipino faithful in celebrating the Feast of the Sto. Niño. The Eucharistic Celebration was presided over by Rev. Fr. Rogelio Albite, DCD. Governor Atty. Franklin P. Bautista, Vice-Governor Lorna Bautista-Bandigan, the Sangguniang Panlalawigan Members, Heads of Office and all employees of the Provincial Government paid homage to the celebration of Filipino culture and Catholic devotion. As a tribute to the Holy Child Jesus, the Provincial Government also participated in the two day procession held at the Brgy. Poblacion, Malita last January 18 and 19.

A joint meeting of Provincial Peace and Order Council (PPOC), Provincial Anti -Drug Abuse Council (PADAC) and Provincial Disaster Risk and Reduction Management Council (PDRRMC) held at the Legislative Bldg. Davao Occidental Capitol earlier today. It was presided over by Atty. Geoffrey Navarra Jr., Provincial Administrator, Ms. Cristina Amoy, OIC-Provincial Director, DILG-PO and Governor Atty. Franklin P. Bautista.

The PDRRMO head, Mr. Harry Chester Camaro, provided an overview of the recent flooding, including the severely affected areas and the actions taken for retrieval, relief and clearing operations. Municipal DRRMO’s heads also presented their individual reports: Ms. Marlou Ompod from Malita, Ms. July Marie Doria from Don Marcelino, Geol. Ariel Austin Acosta, PhD, from Jose Abad Santos and Mr. Jesmar Magallanes, the MDRRMO Head-Designate of Sta. Maria.

PLTCOL Jacqueline Antero provided an update on the overall crime situation for the 4th Quarter of 2024, emphasizing operational achievements and notable initiatives. Additionally, IAV Rey Pavillar, MPA, Provincial Officer of PDEA-DOCPO, shared updates on the accomplishments and progress of the Drug Clearing Operations within the province.

The meeting was also attended by representatives from the Philippine National Police, Armed Forces of the Philippines, Bureau of Fire Protection, Bureau of Jail Management and Penology, Coast Guard, Provincial Heads of Office, and other council members. Mayor Jason John Joyce of Jose Abad Santos, Mayor Michael Maruya of Don Marcelino and Mayor Adelan De Arce of Sarangani were also present.

This meeting aimed to enhance collaborative efforts in ensuring the safety and security of the community with a particular focus on preparedness and preventive measures.

The Provincial Government of Davao Occidental received recognition for its steadfast support for the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology Regional Office Xl (BJMPRO-XI) successful implementation of Safekeeping and Development Programs. The award was given during the 33rd Anniversary of the (BJMPRO-XI) held on September 6, 2024 at the Grand Regal Hotel, Davao City.

The ceremony, which took place with an inspiring theme “Makatao, Maka-Diyos na Serbisyong Publiko Tungo sa Maunlad, Maayos at Progresibong Pagbabago” was graced by Ms. Nally Bangoy head of the Provincial Agriculture office, received the award on behalf of the province.

Brigada Eskwela has been a tradition of volunteerism and bayanihan between the schools, the community and the government. This year’s Schools Division of Davao Occidental’s Division Wide Brigada Eskwela kick-off ceremony with the theme “Bayanihan para sa matatag na paaralan” was held at the newly relocated Tubalan Elementary School, Tubalan, Malita Davao Occidental.

This Resilience Month, the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (PDRRMO) held its 2nd Davao Occidental Search, Rescue and Law Enforcement Exhibit at the Capitol Lobby, Brgy. Lais, Malita Davao Occidental.

The conduct of the said activity was spearheaded by Provincial Risk Reduction Management Provincial Head, Mr. Harry Chester Camoro, RN, and participated by the Provincial Health Office headed by Dr. Anne Margaux Bautista-Quezada, MD, DPCOM, MPH Provincial Health Officer II; BFP Davao Occidental headed by FSUPT. Arthur Joseph C. Urquiza, Provincial Director; Coast Guard Station Davao Occidental headed by CG ENS Glennick S. Ytang, Station Commander; (AFP) 73rd IB headed by LTC Jaicris Jan P. Mendoza INF (GSC) PA Battalion Commander; Davao Occidental Police Office headed by PCOL Epe A. Rillo, Provincial Director, and the Local Disaster Risk Reduction Management (DRRMs) of Sta. Maria and Don Marcelino.

This aims to concretize emergency preparedness that will ensure an effective response to disasters and foster a culture of safety for every community.

During the activity, the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (PDRRMO) turned over search and rescue equipment to its partner agencies.

The exhibit will run from July 22 to 26, 2024.

In observance of the National Disaster Resilience Month this July, the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMO) has prepared and will take part in numerous activities that will encompass the four thematic areas of disaster resilience: prevention and mitigation, preparedness, response and rehabilitation and recovery.

Eleven (11) brave PDRRMO personnel will participate in the 10-days National Rescue Jamboree in Southern Leyte, in which they will exchange learning activities and skill exhibition.

Another event prepared by PDRRMO is the Provincial Rescue Summit 2024, which will be open to the public on July 22-26, at the Provincial Capitol Grounds. This summit is staged for the 5 municipalities and Response Cluster of National Agencies and will be an avenue for a 10-day Emergency Medical Responders Training.

The National Disaster Resilience Month, under EO Number 29, was signed June 28, 2017. This years’ call to action is “Bantayog ng Katatagan at ang Pagbubuklod sa Layuning Kahandaan.”
